SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A one-year-old boy died in a landmine explosion in Karam Girarai village of Ladha tehsil here.

Upper South Waziristan additional deputy commissioner Fazal Wadood said the child, identified as Ihsanullah, was playing near his home when the explosion occurred.

Mr Wadood told Dawn that the explosion caused by an unexploded landmine, which had not been cleared yet and this led to the tragic loss of child’s life.

The district administration expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

The family was assured that all possible assistance would be provided to it during this difficult time.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing threat of landmines in Upper South Waziristan. Previously, the region witnessed several such explosions, resulting in the deaths of many children and leaving others severely injured.

These incidents have caused both physical and psychological harm to children, underlining the urgent need for clearing landmines in the region.
