LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a survey of all dilapidated buildings in every city immediately after the monsoon season and early completion of the Phase-I of the Punjab Development Programme (PDP).

Presiding over a meeting held here on Friday to review progress on the programme, the chief minister was given a briefing. Deputy commissioners (DCs) from across the province joined the meeting via video link.

The CM directed the authorities to submit an impact study report on sewerage and drainage projects and reviewed progress on PDP schemes in Vehari, Burewala, Tandlianwala, Jaranwala, Jalalpur Jattan, Sambrial, Muridke, Khudian, Kabirwala, Chak Jhumra, Bhalwal and Attock.

The meeting also reviewed projects in Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, Ali Pur Chattha, Chichawatni, Daska, Layyah, Sillanwali, Wazirabad, Bahawalnagar and Mailsi.

Ms Nawaz directed that a case study of PDP’s Phase-I be prepared, besides compilation of public feedback on the programme.

Progress reports on projects in Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi and Sialkot were presented during the meeting.

The meeting was informed that underground storage tanks had been made fully operational in 29 cities, while construction work was underway in 21 others.

Ms Nawaz said newly installed sewerage systems led to a marked improvement in drainage in several cities. She praised the DCs, assistant commissioners (ACs), heads of Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) and Suthra Punjab for their excellent performance during the monsoon, and lauded officers and officials who worked day and night to facilitate the public throughout the rainy season.
