Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Tehran’s control, in response to US President Donald Trump claiming the waterway as American territory, the IRNA state news agency reports.

Mokhber told Lebanese outlet Al Mayadeen that Trump was “fantasising” about controlling the waterway.

“We have a law in this regard that exists in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and there is also a decision that the Leader makes regarding the Strait of Hormuz,” Mokhber says.

IRNA adds that he has dismissed Trump’s remarks as “illogical, ineffective and futile”, and that the strait will be managed solely according to arrangements by Iran.
