US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in a call with Bahrain’s Finance Minister Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, has discussed ‘Operation Economic Outcast’.

In a post on X, the Treasury Department said that during the call, Bessent said Iran cannot be permitted to “threaten international commerce or use the Strait of Hormuz as leverage against the global economy”.

“He also emphasised the importance of sustained financial pressure on Iran’s remaining economic lifelines and underscored that the United States will hold the regime’s financial enablers accountable.”

It added that the two officials stressed the significance of continued coordination among the US, Bahrain, and other GCC partners, as well as the broader international community, to “combat illicit finance and strengthen economic security”.
