Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian says his country did not start the war in the region but “stood firmly against the aggressors”, according to AlJazeera.

“The US and the Zionist entity launched a war on Iran,” he said.

The president was speaking at the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.

He reiterates Iran’s position that the country’s neighbours should not be used to launch attacks against it. “No Muslim country should pursue its security in the insecurity of its neighbours,” the president is quoted as saying by state media.

“No Muslim country’s territory should be used against another Muslim nation,” he adds.
