QatarEnergy has notified Italian utility Edison, one of its biggest customers in Europe, that it has extended the force majeure suspension period on liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries until early November, Reuters reports.

QatarEnergy has stopped supplying LNG to Edison since April due to the disruptions caused by the US-Iran conflict.

The Gulf supplier will not be able to deliver a further five LNG cargoes scheduled for delivery between the end of September and the beginning of November, Edison said in a message posted on Italy’s GME platform for the gas market.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as additional information becomes available,” Edison said, confirming the extended suspension previously communicated by sources.

Edison, a unit of French energy group EDF, holds a long-term contract with QatarEnergy for the supply of 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to Italy, around 10 per cent of the country’s total consumption.
