Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says Iranian forces are resisting the US’ effort to get ships safely across the Strait of Hormuz, Al Jazeera reports.

In a video message, he acknowledges that “the enemy managed to get some ships” through Hormuz, but stresses that Iranian forces remain “in complete control of the strait and will not allow it to be opened”.

He claims that the US is giving vessels “false guarantees” about safe passage through a southern route in the strategic waterway, adding that ships attempting to do so are being targeted.

“America wants to use the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz in violation of the Memorandum of Understanding, and we will not allow it,” Ghalibaf states.
