ISLAMABAD: The sisters of former prime minister Imran Khan were once again not allowed on Tuesday to meet PTI founder in Adiala jail.
The family of Bushra Bibi also returned home without meeting her.
The PTI termed this action of the Adiala jail management a severe violation of the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Islamabad High Court (IHC).
PTI focal person Advocate Awais Younas Chaudhry told Dawn that the three sisters of Imran Khan reached Adiala jail at 2pm and waited there till 6:30pm, but they were not allowed to meet the founding chairman of PTI.
Similarly, family members of Bushra Bibi also reached there and waited till 6pm, but they were also not allowed to meet the former First Lady. It was nothing but a violation of the orders of top courts of the country,” Mr Chaudhry said.
PTI welcomes IHC order regarding meetings between PTI founder and his family members
A senior leader of PTI, wishing not to be quoted, said that they were hoping that the meeting will be allowed, but by denying the meeting a clear message has been given to the party that they should not think that things were getting better.
“What we have been hearing is that Khan Sahib has said that the long march will be held even if he is shifted to the hospital. So even if Khan Sahib will be shifted to hospital he will be sent back to jail, after five or six days, instead of to Banigala,” he said.
Replying to a question, he claimed that efforts were going on to make Ms Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of Imran, his sons and the British government to become guarantors that Imran will not make any political statement if he is sent to the UK, but Mr Khan has not shown any willingness.
“Those who were thinking that things will get better should know that there will be pre- and post conditions which will not be acceptable to Khan Sahib. They should not try to connect dots,” he said.
Talking to Dawn, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas expressed disappointment over denial of the meeting of Imran with his sisters. He suggested that meetings and medical treatment of Imran should be allowed as part of confidence building measures (CBMs).
“Small facilities can make a way for the breakthrough. It is unfortunate that the court orders could not be implemented,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PTI has condemned denial of families’ meetings with Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi, despite clear orders of the Islamabad High Court.
“The complete denial of access, immediately following a clear judicial direction, raises serious concerns regarding compliance with and implementation of orders of the superior judiciary. PTI considers failure to implement the court’s directions to be a matter of grave concern and calls upon relevant prison authorities to immediately comply with the judicial orders and ensure that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are permitted family meetings in accordance with the law,” it stated.
PTI welcomes IHC ruling
In another statement, Mr Waqas welcomed the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) ruling directing authorities not to keep PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in solitary confinement, describing the decision as a significant step towards safeguarding their constitutional, legal and fundamental rights.
He also welcomed the court’s orders regarding meetings between Imran Khan and his family members, arrangements for telephone calls between him and his sons, provision of newspapers and books, and access to medical facilities in accordance with applicable prison rules.
