Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has slammed claims by US Central Command (Centcom) that it does not target civilians, after a US strike on a wedding in southern Iran left four dead.

In a post on X, Baqaei took aim at Centcom spokesperson Tim Hawkins and alleged that he “has forgotten his own military record”, listing examples of drone strikes in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“He has forgotten something else as well: even ‘Homeland’, an American-produced television series, portrayed, in its fourth season, a US drone strike on a wedding … an attack that killed around 40 civilians,” he writes on X, attaching a clip from the show.

“The reality is so horrifying that even American propaganda has never dared make the claim Hawkins is making today. Sirik is not a story. The civilians are real. The victims are real.”
