US crude oil nears $100 a barrel as Middle East hostilities intensify

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) as Iran and the US hit tankers in the biggest wave of attacks on shipping since the war began, threatening to worsen the ongoing impairment of energy supplies from the Middle East, Reuters reports.

WTI crude was up $3.45, or 3.7 per cent, at $96.48 a barrel as of 1515 GMT (8:15pm PKT), the highest since early June.

Front-month Brent crude futures were up $3.40, or 3.5pc, at $101.32 a barrel, after touching a high of $101.55.
