Bank AL Habib has introduced AL Habib Digital, a newly built mobile banking application that replaces the Bank’s previous app entirely. It is not an update in the usual sense. The app has been rebuilt from scratch as a fully native product, and customers who open it for the first time are likely to notice the difference within a few taps: faster loading, cleaner transitions and an interface that feels designed rather than assembled.

For a market where mobile banking has often trailed behind the branch network in both attention and investment, that is a meaningful change.

Built around how people actually bank

The app’s dashboard can be arranged by the customer, who can bring the services they use most, transfers, bill payments, mobile top-ups, to where they are easiest to reach, while clearing away the rest. Interactive widgets shorten the distance between opening the app and finishing a transaction.

Access is secured through biometric login, using fingerprint or facial recognition, while FPIN authentication protects transactions themselves. A Dark and Light Mode option completes a design approach that pays attention to detail without overcomplicating the experience.

Card control, moved to the phone

Debit card management has been brought fully into the app. Customers can activate, block or unblock a card, reset their PIN and manage transaction limits without a helpline call or a branch visit. For a Bank with 1,354 branches across 550 cities, this changes where a large share of everyday banking now happens.

The change most likely to be felt in daily use, however, is instant fund transfers that do not require registering a payee first, a step that has slowed down mobile payments across Pakistan for years.

A benchmark, not an experiment

Pakistan’s banking app landscape has been due an upgrade. Digital-first banks are entering the market, and a generation of customers accustomed to fast, well-designed apps in every other part of their lives is beginning to expect the same from their bank.

AL Habib Digital does not attempt to be everything at once. It sets out to be a genuinely good banking app, and by most measures, it succeeds.
