About 500 refugees from Yemen have reached the coastal city of Obock in Djibouti, Al Jazeera reports, citing an official.

The group included women and children “rescued at sea from boats stranded without fuel”, Djibouti’s Minister of Economy and Finance Ilyas Dawaleh writes on X, adding that Djiboutian institutions are conducting rescue operations and providing emergency assistance.

At least 46,000 people have been displaced in Yemen since fighting escalated last week, the UN’s International Organisation for Migration (IOM) says.

The figure is rising “by the hour”, the agency warns.
