French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Paris, with the pair discussing de-escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Al Jazeera reports.
In a post on X, Macron writes that pursuing stability in the Middle East also involves “defending the interests of the French people”.
“Securing our energy supplies by working toward de-escalation and developing alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz means easing the pressure on pump prices,” he adds. “Deepening our defence and security cooperation with our partners means continuing together the relentless fight against terrorism.”
