KARACHI: Police on Thursday arrested two suspects, one of them a woman, to reach the prime suspect of a ‘fake job fair’ held a day earlier in a farmhouse in Gadap town.

As many as 59 women, who were brought to the Ansari Meadows Farmhouse near Baqai Medical College on the pretext of interviews for jobs in Bahria Town Karachi (BTK), were deprived of their mobile phones, Gadap police said, adding that the girls were told that they would be interviewed by BTK builders and officials.

The police said that the arrested man, Mr Waqas, had booked the farmhouse for the interview purpose and the held woman, Ms Nargis, had acted as the event’s coordinator. The main suspect, Sahil Salman, had organised the event, according to the police.

The affected women told the police that Sahil Salman had asked them to deposit their mobile phones at a guarded counter outside the interview room in order to avoid disturbance during the process. However, they said, he took away all the mobile phones with him and fled the area.

After receiving information about the incident, the police visited the farmhouse and initiated legal proceedings after registering an FIR against the suspects on the complaint of affected women.

The police said that raids were being conducted at different places to arrest Sahil Salman.
