EU chief says world initially underestimated virus threat

The president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has said that the world initially underestimated the threat from the coronavirus.

Talking to a German newspaper Bild she said: "I think that all of us who are not experts initially underestimated the coronavirus [...] we understand that measures that seemed drastic two or three weeks ago, need to be taken now."
