RAWALPINDI: A convicted prisoner attempted suicide by injuring himself in his barrack in Adiala jail the other day.

Assistant Superintendent of Adiala Central Jail Mohammad Mumtaz lodged an FIR with the police, stating that convicted prisoner Zubair Akbar, a resident of Jhelum, who was serving 25-year imprisonment in a murder case, attempted to kill himself by wounding his belly, chest, arms, shoulders and lips.

The official said Akbar made the attempt to commit suicide for blackmailing the jail authorities to press them to accept his demands.

After the prisoner was spotted injured by the jail authorities, he was taken to the hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
