Two soldiers injured in Khyber landmine blast

KHYBER: Two soldiers were injured when a landmine planted on the main Bara-Tirah Road exploded during routine bomb detection exercise on Sunday morning, sources in the region said.

They said that an eight-member bomb disposal squad was conducting an explosive detection exercise in Ghaibi Neeka locality when they spotted an improvised explosive device planted on the road in Mammal Pati area.

They said that the BD squad immediately took cover off the road to avoid any casualty, but two of them, identified as Tahir and Iftikhar, received minor injuries when they were hit by the IED shrapnel.

The incident was then conveyed to all the security checkposts.

Afterwards, a sensitisation exercise initiated in the area by the security forces to ward off occurrence of a similar incident.
