Over half of the people taken hostage by Hamas during its attack on Israel on October 7 are still being held in Gaza, according to Israeli authorities, AFP reports.

To date 110 hostages have been freed, 105 of them exchanged during a seven-day truce for Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

Israel has also repatriated eight bodies, including on Friday those of dual Israeli-French national Elia Toledano, 28, abducted from an electronic music festival, and two 19-year-old soldiers.

113 hostages still alive

A total of 113 hostages are still believed to be alive in Gaza, according to an AFP count.

Hamas is also holding the bodies of eight hostages who died in Gaza and 11 other people who died in the October 7 attacks and whose bodies were brought to Gaza.

Of the 113 believed to be alive, 103 are Israelis or dual nationals, eight are Thai, one is Nepali, and one is French-Mexican.
