The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has said that 1.9 million displaced people in Gaza face an “alarming spread of infectious diseases”.

In a post on X, the UN agency stated that more than 180,000 people suffer from upper respiratory infections while more than 136,000 people suffer from diarrhoea, half of whom were children under five years of age.

There were more than 55,000 cases of lice and scabies whereas more than 5,000 people were infected with chicken pox, UNRWA said citing World Health Organisation’s data.

“Each day, the situation deteriorates,” the post said.
