Why did the Gaza death toll jump to almost 62,000 Palestinians?

Health authorities in Gaza have updated their death toll from Israel’s devastating military onslaught on the territory to 61,709 people, considerably higher than the previous number of 47,498, Al Jazeera reports.

They have added thousands whose bodies have now been recovered after the ceasefire deal but cautioned that at least 14,222 people are still believed to be trapped under the rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescuers.
