Yair Golan, the leader of the centre-left Democrats and former deputy chief of the Israeli army, says the Israeli government should not be allowed to lead the country “into an endless war” in Lebanon as it has done in Gaza.

“I know Lebanon. I was the commander of Northern Command. I spent most of my professional years as a fighter and commander there,” he said on X.

“And I say clearly: We must exhaust every diplomatic option to the fullest before sending divisions into the Lebanese quagmire.”
