RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi police executed a special security plan to avert any untoward incident outside Central Jail Adiala during the three days of Eidul Fitr.
As part of the security plan, a total of 128 police personnel, led by one SP, one ASP and five Station House Officers, assisted by anti-riot barriers, anti-riot tools, tear gas guns, rubber bullets, traffic wardens and a water cannon vehicle were deployed outside Adiala Jail where the PTI founder is imprisoned.
The security plan was implemented during the three days of Eidul Fitr from 10am onwards, as PTI leaders and workers were expected to gather there.
The first police checkpoint was established outside the jail’s Gate No. 1 under the supervision of SP Saddar Division Anum Sher, while another police post was set up at Gate No. 5.
Outside Gate 5, traffic police, along with forklift operators and Special Branch experts, conducted search, sweeping and scanning for any explosive devices using sniffer dogs.
Another checkpoint was established opposite the Shaigan Factory. The in-charge of Adiala Chowki was told to obtain a clearance certificate from Special Branch experts after search and sweeping for explosive devices.
Special traffic arrangements were put in place outside Adiala Jail by the city traffic police to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, while Special Branch staff in plain clothes were deployed in surrounding areas to maintain vigilance.
In view of the current security situation and recent terrorist attacks, the police remained on high alert, while special checking of cars and motorcycles was conducted.
The SDPO Saddar Circle was responsible for ensuring the availability of ambulances, Rescue 1122 vehicles and firefighting units.
Sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan and PTI workers were expected to visit Adiala Jail during the Eid holidays.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, more than 6,000 officers and personnel of Rawalpindi Police performed duty to ensure peace, a police spokesman said.
Special security arrangements were made for Eid gatherings at more than 1,400 mosques, imambargahs and open places. More than 800 traffic police officers performed duty to maintain traffic flow throughout the city during Eid days.
The spokesman said effective security and traffic arrangements were finalised for Eidul Fitr.

More than 500 officers performed duty at these pickets.
Police station mobile squads, along with special teams of Dolphin Squad and motorcycle squads, carried out patrol duties in their respective areas.
CPO Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani had said those involved in aerial firing, one-wheeling and other illegal activities will be dealt with an iron hand.
