Pakistan name squad for Ireland tri-series, Women’s T20 World Cup

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and a tri-series taking place in Ireland prior to the global event.

According to the PCB, Fatima Sana will lead Pakistan in the Ireland tri-series and the T20 World Cup being held in England and Wales. The 24-year-old Fatima, who is set to feature in her third T20 World Cup, will lead Pakistan for the second successive edition, having captained the team in the 2024 edition held in the UAE.

Besides hosts Ireland and Pakistan, West Indies will be the third team in the T20 tri-series scheduled to be held in Dublin from May 28 to 4 June 4.

The tri-series will help Pakistan gear up for the 12-team T20 World Cup being staged from June 12 to July 5.

Among the 15 players selected, Eyman Fatima, Natalia Pervaiz, Rameen Shamim, Saira Jabeen and Tasmia Rubab will feature in T20 World Cup for the first time.

Pakistan recently enjoyed a successful T20I series against Zimbabwe in Karachi, where the hosts secured a convincing 3-0 clean sweep.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan will play two warm-ups against Sri Lanka on Saturday (June 6) and Scotland (June 9). Both the games will take place in Derby.

Pakistan begin their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals India on June 14 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. They take on South Africa in their second fixture on June 17 at the same venue. Pakistan then travel to Southampton to face Bangladesh at the Hampshire Bowl on June 20. Their fourth fixture will be against Australia at Headingley, Leeds on June 23, while their final group-stage match will be against the Netherlands on June 27 in Bristol.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The final will be staged at Lord’s.
