Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has announced that six Pakistani sailors injured in the August 11 Houthi attack in the Red Sea have returned to Pakistan.
In a post on X, DPM Dar announced the safe return of six injured sailors and the repatriation of the mortal remains of two sailors.
“All relevant stakeholders have been directed to ensure their safe, dignified and expeditious repatriation.”
He appreciated the role of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah and the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh for their “prompt and dedicated efforts in facilitating the return of the injured and repatriation of the bodies from Yemen and onward travel to Pakistan, in the absence of a Pakistani diplomatic mission in Yemen”.
He also lauded the efforts taken by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in facilitating the arrival and cooperation from the Saudi Foreign Ministry on “medical assistance and arrangements provided in Jeddah”.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of the attack and stated that “safety and security of seafarers must be ensured at all times”.
“We remain committed to extending all possible assistance to the injured sailors and the bereaved families.”
The attack had targeted a Tanzania-flagged vessel Tihamah, causing deaths and injuries among its crew, including killing three Pakistanis. At the time, Dar had confirmed that one Pakistani national was among the injured.
