
PESHAWAR: Two members of a family were killed and two others injured as the roof of their house collapsed due to torrential rain in Topi tehsil of Swabi district on Thursday.
Rescue 1122 said that the heavy rainfall caused several other buildings to cave in as flash floods hit the district.
It said that at least 300 people were rescued by its workers.
The rainfall started soon after midnight and continued until morning amid forecasts of more downpour.
Rescue 1122 says several buildings collapsed in Swabi
Spokesman for Rescue 1122 in Swabi Luqman Khan said that the incident took place in Azadkhel area of Topi city.
He said that the family was asleep when the roof of their house caved in due to the collapse of a boundary wall in the mountainous area.
The spokesman said that the neighbours made announcements on loudspeakers and informed Rescue 1122 before starting efforts to retrieve family members from under the debris.
He said that both the injured and the bodies were taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Fareeq, 50, and his 28-year-old daughter, while the injured included Awais Khan, 30, and Fareeq’s wife, 45.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 reported the collapse of many buildings in various places in the district and said that its teams moved the flood-affected people to safer places.
The floodwater also entered a bank’s premises in Kunda area of Chota Lahor tehsil.
In the Jarando Canal area, two people were trapped in floods, while a house collapsed. The Rescue 1122 workers shifted the stranded people to safety.
In the Azamabad police post area, five people were injured in a building collapse incident; they were evacuated and shifted to the hospital.
Also, the downpour caused flash floods and landslides in parts of Razaar tehsil.
Rescue 1122 officials said that teams evacuated people from flood-hit Hamza Dher, Mansabdar, Managai, Tarakai, Landi Cham, Qamargai and Dhandoqa in boats.
The floodwater gathered at the Swabi Interchange of Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway, suspending traffic on both motorway and Swabi-Jehangira Road for four hours.
Similarly, the vehicular traffic remained halted on Topi-Tarbela Road for several hours due to the flooding of the nearby Topi Badri nullah.
Many areas and low-lying villages were inundated and the maize and vegetables were badly affected. Also, the power supply to numerous regions remained suspended for long hours, with Peshawar Electric Supply Company workers remaining busy restoring it.
Deputy commissioner Dr Tariqullah and assistant commissioners visited flood affected people and assured them of complete government support and cooperation.
Travellers remained stranded on the Bisham-Swat Road due to a massive landslide near the Machar area in Alpuri tehsil.
The in charge of the Alpuri police station said that heavy machinery had been called for road clearance and that the artery would be opened for traffic soon.
The road was partially reopened in the evening.
The fresh monsoon rains triggered landslides and suspended traffic on several roads across Bajaur district on Thursday.
Authorities launched work to clear the roads.
Scores of motorists from War Mamund area got stranded in Thani area after a section of the Inayat Kallay-Shagoo Road was inundated by flash floods.
The Thani road connects War Mamund with the rest of the district via Inayat Kallay. The floodwater receded around noon.
No damage to public life was reported in any part of the district.
Life was disrupted across Charsadda on Thursday as persistent heavy rain accompanied by strong winds inundated roads, streets, educational institutions and residential areas in different parts of the district.
Several schools and colleges remained closed due to water accumulation on campuses, causing difficulties for students and teachers. The Government Girls High School Charsadda Khas, Government Girls Degree College and Government High School Tarangzai were among the institutions where rainwater accumulated, disrupting educational activities.
Several roads and streets in Charsadda city were submerged following continuous rainfall, while flood-like torrents flowed through several narrow streets and residential localities. Charsadda Khas, Utmanzai, Nowshera Road, Ismatabad and adjoining areas were particularly affected.
