Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has taken a jab at new sanctions announced by the United States, noting that it is not the first time Washington has undertaken the biggest economic pressure campaign against Tehran.
“Fourteen years ago: ‘Most crippling sanctions in history.’ Failed,” he writes on X. “Eight years ago: ‘Maximum pressure.’ Failed. Five months ago: ‘Unconditional surrender.’ Failed. Today: ‘Most crushing economic operation ever.’ Bound to fail.
“We have seen this movie before. Same bull. Different bullies,” Araghchi adds, attaching a tweet from former US president Barack Obama which reads, “These are the most crippling sanctions in the history of sanctions. Period.”
