'We hit them very hard last night': Trump

US President Donald Trump says his country hit Iran “very hard” in overnight strikes and that new Iranian equipment was destroyed.

“We hit them hard last night, very hard. They gave a little love tap, but we hit them very hard last night,” he tells reporters at the White House, adding that the US launched the attack “because they took a shot at us in Jordan”.

“They were trying to rebuild their radar systems and a missile system,” he adds, noting that the US destroyed the mines in the strategic waterway. “We see everything that they’re doing.

“We blew up much more than their radar last night … and we’re prepared to do another one any time we want.”

Trump reiterates his claim that the US is controlling the Strait of Hormuz and aiding commercial tankers to bring out millions of barrels of oil.

“We are, for the most part, doing it without trouble. Every once in a while, they shoot a drone [and we] knock it down,” he tells reporters.
