The Iranian foreign ministry has strongly denounced US strikes on the country’s oil tankers, deeming the attack an “act of aggression”, a statement reads.

“These illegal and aggressive actions, carried out as a continuation of the US military aggression against Iran and as part of that regime’s maritime blockade and economic warfare against our homeland, constitute a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, a war crime, and an overt threat to international peace and the security of commercial shipping,” it adds.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while emphasising the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to resolutely defend its sovereignty and national interests against state terrorism and US acts of aggression — including the continuation of the maritime blockade and economic warfare and attacks on commercial vessels — reiterates that responsibility for the consequences arising from the continuation of US aggressive and interventionist actions in the region will lie with the US regime and its accomplices and partners.”
