LAHORE: Pakistan’s leading wrestler Inam Butt has tested positive for a banned substance following a dope test conducted during the Asian Beach Games in China in April, sources told Dawn on Monday.

Sources said the two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist had taken medication for an eye-related condition before the Games. The medication, they added, was for medical treatment and was not intended to enhance his performance.

Inam did not inform the relevant anti-doping authorities about the medication before participating in the Games, sources said.

It is learnt that Inam was served a notice by anti-doping authorities in May, following which he submitted an explanation detailing the medication he had used. His response was initially accepted, sources said.

However, the International Testing Agency (ITA) subsequently conducted another test and reviewed the case, with a final decision still pending. Inam, a former World Beach Games champion, also serves as secretary of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF).
