KARACHI: Robbers shot dead a man and snatched Rs1 million moments after he withdrew the money from a private bank branch in Kharadar on Wednesday, officials said.

Docks SHO Waqar Kaiser said that Moin Akhter, 40, had left his office near West Wharf to withdraw cash from a private bank. His teenage son travelled along. They withdrew Rs1 million cash and were on their way back to the office when two armed robbers on a motorbike intercepted them and snatched the money.

However, as Moin put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and fled with the loot. He sustained a critical bullet wound and was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Sindh Home Minister Sindh Ziaul Hasan Lanjar took notice of the incident and sought details from the DIG-South.

Young man killed by robbers

In another incident, a 30-year-old man, identified as Naseebullah, was shot and killed near Gulshan-i-Hadeed on Wednesday morning.

While the Bin Qasim police said that the motive behind the murder was unclear, the victim’s brother, Abdul Manan, told the media outside the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where the body was brought, that it was a robbery-related incident.

He said a lone robber had entered their home and Naseebullah had tried to put up resistance but the robber shot and killed him before fleeing.

The deceased was a truck driver and father of two children. He originally hailed from Mohmand Agency.
