The United Kingdom has condemned the Houthis for resuming fighting in Yemen and for recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting civilian and energy infrastructure, Al Jazeera reports.
“The Houthis bear full responsibility for this crisis,” a spokesperson for the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office has said, adding the renewed fighting is deepening humanitarian suffering in impoverished Yemen.
Houthi attacks also threaten regional stability, freedom of navigation, and vital trade routes through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The UK has said Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s internationally recognised governments have the right to defend their security and sovereignty in accordance with international law, and called on the Houthis to “cease their attacks and escalation immediately”.
