SWABI: The Jamaat-i-Islami leaders and workers on Friday staged a sit-in here against the soaring prices of petroleum products.

The protesters from different parts of the district had gathered at the Karnal Sher Khan Chowk before staging a sit-in.

Holding placards, they demanded that the government slash petroleum prices and provide relief to the people.

The protesters said that the federal government was least bothered about the financial burden it had placed on the people.

The government, they said, was increasing the prices of the petroleum products day by day.

The protesters said that the prices of petroleum products should be reduced, considering the problems faced by poor people.

They said that extra burden should not be placed on people under the pretext that price of petrol had increased in the international market.

Speaking on the occasion, JI local elder Maulana Murad Khan said that the party staged a sit-in at Karnal Sher Khan Chowk against petroleum levy, excessive electricity loadshedding.

He said that the people should not be pushed to the wall because they were already facing high inflation and that the government should take steps to provide relief to them.
