Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims that an American MQ-1 drone was intercepted and “destroyed” over the Strait of Hormuz, Anadolu reports citing the country’s state broadcaster IRIB.

The broadcaster, citing a statement from the Guards, says the drone was intercepted by a “new advanced air defence system” operated by the IRGC Aerospace Force.

Iran’s integrated air defence network carried out the operation, the statement adds.

No information has been immediately provided about who operated the drone or further details surrounding the incident.
