Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, says any assessment of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and its consequences would be incomplete without addressing its root causes, which he attributes directly to US and Israeli aggression, state news agency IRNA reports.

Speaking at a high-level meeting of the UN Trade and Development, he says, “The current situation is a direct result of the illegal military aggression by the US and the Zionist regime (Israel) against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Bahreini also highlights efforts by Iran and Oman to facilitate the resumption of maritime traffic through the waterway, saying the two countries have made extensive efforts to finalise arrangements and will continue to do so.
