The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned “in the strongest terms” attacks by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia, including strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure, according to Al Jazeera.
In a statement, the UNSC demands that the Houthis “immediately cease their military escalation”.
Council members reiterate their earlier condemnation of attacks and threats against shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb.
The UNSC expresses solidarity with Saudi Arabia and affirms its inherent right to self-defence under international law. The UN body also reaffirms its commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
