ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday said action against illegal encroachments across Islamabad was continuing, as its environment wing suspended another official for “inefficiency and misconduct”.

The environment wing, which has already taken action against three officials in recent days, suspended a range officer of the Bhara Kahu zone over allegations that he failed to report unauthorised construction in his area.

“Yes, we have suspended the Range Officer of the Bhara Kahu area. An inquiry will be held to determine the facts about the unauthorised construction of a house and the role of this official,” a CDA officer said.

The other day, two officials of the same zone were suspended for misconduct, while an official of the urban area was issued a show-cause notice for allegedly taking a bribe for dumping.

“Member Environment Abdullah Khurram Niazi has decided to take strict action against anyone involved in the destruction of the environment. In recent days, action has been taken against four officials and it is expected that two more officials will face action,” a source said.

Meanwhile, a CDA press release said anti-encroachment operations were continuing across the city to remove encroachments from public and state land, prevent unauthorised construction and illegal commercial activities, take action against non-conforming land use and maintain the organised and planned character of the federal capital.

“The ongoing anti-encroachment campaign is being carried out in accordance with the directions and vision of the Federal Minister for Interior, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and under the effective supervision of the Chairman CDA. During the operation, strict compliance with the applicable laws, rules and regulations, approved land-use plans and building control requirements in Islamabad is being ensured,” the press release said.

The CDA’s Enforcement Directorate and relevant Building Control formations, in coordination with the District Administration and other concerned departments, are taking action in different areas of Islamabad against encroachments, unauthorised construction, illegal commercial activities, non-conforming land use, construction without approved plans and other violations.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Anam Fatima and the concerned assistant commissioners also remained present in their respective areas to monitor the ongoing anti-encroachment operations.

According to the CDA, wherever applicable laws and regulations provide for regularisation, approval, change of land use or payment of prescribed charges, such matters will be processed by the competent authority strictly in accordance with the prescribed rules and regulations.
