HARIPUR: A couple was shot dead and the body of the man was allegedly set ablaze over a property dispute in a remote village of Ghazi tehsil here, police said on Friday.

Police said that Bostan, 56, and his wife Rifat Sultana, 50, residents of Pipliyala village in Jhamra union council, were at home when their rivals barged into their residence and shot them dead.

The accused, according to police, dragged Bostan’s body outside the house and set it on fire.

Police said that the motive behind the double murder was a property dispute between the two families who were already engaged in litigation.

The bodies were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Ghazi, where autopsies were conducted.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested two suspects Ashfaq and Qamar and recovered the shotgun allegedly used in the crime. The arrested persons were said to be close relatives of the slain couple.
