PESHAWAR: Two policemen were martyred when unidentified persons opened fire on them in separate incidents in Peshawar and Tank districts, police said on Friday.
They said that unknown persons opened fire at a constable, identified as Shah Mast Khan, in the Mehr Gul Kallay Mira Kachori area within the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Thursday night. He died on the spot.
The funeral prayers of the martyred cop were offered at Peshawar’s police headquarters on Friday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, police chief Zulfiqar Hameed, Capital City Police Officer, Peshawar, Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad, and other senior police and military officers attended the funeral.
Meanwhile, a policeman was martyred and another injured when unidentified assailants targeted law enforcers deployed at a hospital in Jandola, a merged tehsil of Tank district, on Friday.
According to police, the attackers opened fire and hurled a hand grenade at the policemen stationed at the hospital’s entrance before fleeing the scene.
Police personnel reached the site and launched a search operation in the area following the attack, police said.
Further details about the nature of the attack and the assailants were not immediately available.
Meanwhile, funeral prayers for the martyred constable, Sirajuddin, were held at the police lines with full official honours.
Tank District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Samad Khan, Commanding Officer 50 Baloch Ali Afzal Khan, additional deputy commissioner Nematullah Khan Kundi, assistant commissioner Jamshed Alam, SP investigation Khalid Mahmood and others were in attendance.
A police contingent presented a guard of honour to the deceased constable. Senior officials laid floral wreaths on his coffin and offered prayers for the departed soul.
DPO Samad Khan expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said the sacrifices of brave policemen such as Sirajuddin strengthened the resolve and morale of the police force.
He said the sacrifices of police martyrs would never be forgotten and that operations against those threatening peace would continue with greater effectiveness.
