QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has emphasised that political issues must be resolved through political processes, reaffirming the government’s readiness to engage in dialogue with political stakeholders.
However, he made it clear that negotiations could not be held with those who shed innocent blood or took up arms, stressing that the writ of the state and the protection of citizens were non-negotiable.
Speaking as the chief guest at a special lecture organised by the Islamabad Policy Research Institute, Mr Bugti highlighted the need to understand Balochistan in the context of its history, geography, social fabric, political evolution and present-day realities.
He noted that the province’s challenges could not be understood through selective narratives or isolated incidents, but required a holistic approach grounded in authentic historical sources and documented evidence.
‘Sustainable solutions’
Mr Bugti underscored that sustainable solutions to Balochistan’s issues lay in effective governance, meritocracy, political inclusion, opportunities for youth, economic development and the enforcement of state authority.
He stressed that peace and development were inseparable, noting that the government was enhancing the capacity of police and law enforcement agencies through modern policing, intelligence-based operations, effective prosecution and improved inter-agency coordination.
He said the aim was to create an environment where young people chose education, employment and constructive activities over violence.
He added that Balochistan’s path to lasting peace and progress lay in constitutional democracy, effective governance, education, economic opportunities and security.
Mr Bugti said a realistic assessment of present challenges, coupled with a collective strategy for the future, was essential to steer the province towards stability and prosperity.
