Israel’s far-right national security minister posted a video showing detained activists from a Gaza-bound flotilla kneeling with their hands tied and foreheads on the ground.
Thousands of Palestinian men, women and children are languishing in Israeli prisons in subhuman conditions, with many routinely subjected to sexual abuse.
“Such assaults, including attacks against the vessels and the arbitrary detention of activists, constitute blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law," joint statement says.
The special military court could also try others captured later in Gaza and suspected of participating in the attack, or of having held or abused Israeli hostages.
Counting all those stranded is difficult, but the Palestinian Authority’s labour ministry said in March it had provided cash assistance to 4,605 Gazans stuck in the West Bank.
