20 arrested in India for celebrating Pakistan win in Champions Trophy final

Twenty men have been arrested in two separate regions of India for celebrating Pakistan's epic Champions Trophy victory against India, Indian media has reported.

Five men were arrested in India's Bikaner district for celebrating Pakistan's triumph, India Today reported.

Imran, Sanjay Khan, Tanveer, Shoaib and Wasim were celebrating Pakistan's victory by "dancing on the beats of dhol and chanting slogans in Pakistan's favour", according to the report.

Police took action on the complaint of right-wing organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which demanded stern action against the individuals. A first information report of the incident has been registered.

"They have been arrested for disturbing peace. They were shouting slogans in favour of Pakistan." the station hose office (SHO) of the area said.

In a separate incident in Madhya Pradesh, 15 Muslims were arrested Monday and charged with sedition, Hindustan Times reported. The arrests were made following complaints by an individual for cracking firecrackers and chanting slogans in Pakistan's favour.

India is finding it difficult to recover from the shock defeat against a much lower-ranked Pakistan side which was followed by protests in the country.

Earlier, reports of celebrations in India-held Kashmir (IHK) had caused anger in India. Indian media outlets had reported 'widespread celebrations' in IHK following Pakistan's Champions Trophy victory against India.

Hurriyat leaders, especially Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had come under criticism for congratulating Pakistan on the win. "Fireworks all around, feels like an early Eid here. Better team took the day. Congratulations team #Pakistan," Farooq had tweeted.

Celebrating is not a problem .even I being Indian was happy for pak winning cricket final . From where they hv come to achieve .. the problem is being anti National .being against India ...the country that they r born n feeds them .. I too hv great Muslim friends who r so passionate of India . If being anti national then law should take it course be it in India or pak or any other country . That's the point here .. rightly arrested .

Your reporting is not correct that people were arrested for celebrating Pakistan'win but for shouting anti India slogans. Remember the young lad in Pakistan jailed for having posters of Virat Kohli? Such is the histrionic atmosphere in two countries.

What's wrong in that? Their hearts are beating in solidarity with the citizens of Pakistan who are presently in a state of trance and probably just carried away by the pleasant surprise that they got from the national cricket team than won the CT for the first time. However, one does realize that the Indian Constitution does not allow free speech or free expression of feelings, no matter what the Indians claim otherwise. So, not surprising!

Pakistan's victory has been widely celebrated in all over Bangladesh, it is normal. They do have so many common elements to celebrate. You should not forget how Bangladeshis in general and in particularly the Hindus of Bangladesh celebrate Indian victory. No one get arrested over there.

@Harmony-1© brother that kid did not raise any anti pak slogans. In one of these cases, 4 youths have been found bursting crackers and chanting anti India slogans. There is a video of that too. Now who is going to tolerate such behaviour? I see lot of my frinds praising Pakistan team on fb/twitter and i guess no one should have issue with that. But anti national sloganeering is not done.

Now that is something wrong.. Though I am a Pakistani and I am very happy for our team's victory but what the guys did in India is anti-nation. If they don't love their country then they should leave their country. Just imagine we fellow Pakistani are celebrating the victory of India on the roads of Pakistan and chanting slogans in favor of India like "India Zindabad" then how will we feel? Won't we consider such Pakistani as anti-Pakistani?

I am Pakistani but believe that if you live in a country, you should respect that country and people of that country. Celebrating your country's defeat is disrespectful at the least. Also, India beat Pakistan in regular match so in no way Pakistani team is superior. Congratulations to Pakistan team for playing their best and bringing trophy home.

Unfortunately india is on its way to become a hardline "Hindu rashtra". Not only have Muslims been arrested but also sedition charges been filed against them. These charges have life imprisonment and death penalty sentence. Now my question to Indians is english citizens of Indian origin in England supporting India get arrested and charged with sedition for supporting india, How would you feel. Great shame
