Polling for Pakistan's 11th general elections ran from 8am to 6pm across the country today.

Polling ended on time after the Election Commission of Pakistan turned down pleas from all major political parties to extend it to facilitate voters. The main reason cited for these requests was sluggish activity in polling stations.

Tragically, at least 31 people were killed in a suicide bomb blast outside a polling station in Quetta. While a number of minor clashes and injuries were reported from other parts of the country, the Quetta bombing remained the biggest tragedy of the day, and polling was largely conducted smoothly across the rest of the country.

Many voters complained of untrained polling staff and a slow voting process, but — importantly — there were no complaints of massive rigging in favour of any party or candidate.
