Former MNA and National Democratic Movement (NDM) chief Mohsin Dawar received multiple bullet injuries in a gun attack and was taken to a district hospital on Saturday in North Waziristan, his fellow party leader Bushra Gohar confirmed to Dawn.com.
Gohar condemned the “cowardly attack” on Dawar, adding that she held the ECP responsible for the attack.
According to DawnNewsTV, the attack on Dawar was carried out while he was protesting against the delay in election results in NA-40 from where he was contesting and had alleged that there were attempts to rig the polling results.
The incident comes more than a month after he survived a gun attack on his convoy during an election rally in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s tribal districts.
Gohar told Dawn.com that several others were also injured in the incident.
She said she wanted the district administration to take action over the incident “as soon as possible” but was not able to get in touch with them.
Gohar added that NDM leaders were in the process of filing a first information report.
Gohar and another NDM leader Afrasiab Khattak alleged that law-enforcement personnel opened fire on Dawar during the protest.
The police have not issued any statements yet.
Meanwhile, Khattak condemned the attack, saying that the ECP had turned a “deaf ear” to NDM’s appeals for the last three days against the “brazen attempts” to rig the election results.
Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) President Sardar Akhtar Mengal also condemned the attack, saying: “Everything is being done to change results.”
Former human rights minister Shireen Mazari said that the attack on Dawar was “totally condemnable”.
In a post on X, referring to two PTI workers killed in clashes in Shangla a day ago, she said, “Yesterday, two young people [were] killed in Shangla and now this.”
PPP leader Farhatullah Babar has demanded an investigation into the attack on Dawar and sought punishment for “trigger happy personnel” who allegedly fired shots at the former legislator.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan demanded a “prompt and transparent inquiry” of the incident.
