KARACHI: Police on Monday formed a committee comprising representatives of lawyers’ organisations, police and the prosecution department to review progress on the investigation into the murder case of senior advocate Khawaja Shamsul Islam.
The senior lawyer was gunned down while his young son Daniyal injured in a firing incident that occurred inside a mosque in the Defence Housing Authority after the Friday prayers (Aug 1).
The Darakhshan police have registered the murder and terror case against seven nominated suspects, including Imran Afridi, son of slain gunman of the victim lawyer. Imran in a video statement had ‘confessed’ to the murder committed in ‘revenge’ for the killing his father.
According to an order issued by DIG-South Syed Asad Raza, a committee comprising Sindh High Court Bar Association president Barrister Muhammad Sarfaraz Ali Metlo and other office-bearers of the bar body namely Muhammad Rahib Lakho, Mirza Sarfraz Ahmed and Wasim Asif Khoso has been made. From the police side, its members are DIG-South Asad Raza, SSP-South Mahzoor Ali, SP (Investigation) Syed Ali Hasan and DSP Asadullah Metlo.
The committee would review progress in the investigation and prosecution of the case registered under terror charges at Darakhshan police station regarding the murder of Advocate Khawaja Shamsul Islam.
