KARACHI: Eight students were injured when a school van caught fire while moving along the Shah Faisal Colony flyover on Thursday.

Rescue-1122 spokesman Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said that the van was carrying 20 students. He said that the Rescue-1122 personnel rushed to the site and extinguished the fire. Eight of the 20 students suffered minor burn injuries and suffocation due to inhalation of smoke, he said.

The injured children were transported to a nearby Fauji Foundation Hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger. The other children were safely dropped at their homes, said Mr Khan.

The van driver managed to escape from the spot.
