KARACHI: In an effort to restore trust in public health services and set an example for public officials, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab went through a vision test as a common citizen at Spencer Eye Hospital on Wednesday.

He followed the standard outpatient procedure, obtained a token, and patiently waited for his turn without any special protocol.

Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said that the condition of Spencer Eye Hospital had significantly improved in the past few years and it had now become a reliable institution. “Restoring citizens’ trust in public institutions is our top priority, which is why we are making public hospitals more effective through practical measures,” he remarked.

The mayor assured that efforts to improve medical facilities are ongoing, including the availability of medicines, cleanliness, and modern medical equipment in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation hospitals.

Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of effective and transparent use of public resources to modernise these facilities. “It is our responsibility to transform institutions established with citizens’ taxes into genuine centres of public service,” he said, pledging the use of all resources available for this mission.
