BANNU/SWAT: A militant was killed in a joint intelligence-based operation by the counter-terrorism department and security forces in Bannu on Monday, while a police constable was martyred in a miscreant attack in the district.

The district police, CTD and security forces conducted a joint IBO in the jurisdiction of the Miryan police station, leading to the killing of an unidentified terrorist in an exchange of fire and the arrest of 10 suspected individuals.

According to police, the operation was carried out in Khani Kalay, Barkzai and surrounding areas on the directive of provincial police chief Zulfiqar Hameed and under the supervision of DPO retired Captain Mohammad Furqan Bilal.

CTD SP Fazal Wahid Khan led the action, which was carried out by personnel from the district police, CTD Special Weapons and Tactics teams, the quick response force and security forces.

Police said that security personnel and armed militants exchanged fire, killing an unidentified militant. The process to identify him began afterward.

The police said that a Kalashnikov rifle, three magazines and a bandolier were seized.

Meanwhile, 10 suspected individuals were detained during search and raid operations in the area. Police said thattwo 303 rifles, two pistols and one repeater rifle were recovered from the detainees, who were being quizzed.

DPO Furqan Bilal commended the police, CTD, Quick Response Force and security personnel for the successful operation.

He said that the personnel fighting terrorism on the frontlines were the true heroes of the nation as they performed their duties with courage, dedication and determination without caring for their own lives.

Meanwhile, police constable Anwarullah Khan, posted to the Bakakhel police station, was martyred in firing by attackers on the Bannu-Miranshah Road on Monday.

The police said that the incident occurred near Hamza Tablighi Markaz in the Bakakhel area.

The gun attack killed the constable on the spot. The assailants fled immediately thereafter.

A heavy police contingent cordoned off the area and launched a search for the attackers in the surrounding areas.

Security was tightened, with checkpoints established at various points.

Meanwhile, the police foiled a militant attack on the Chatekal police checkpost near Jarogo Waterfall in Bar Swat late on Sunday.

The police said thatmore than 12 militants surrounded the checkpost before opening fire.

The personnel deployed at the post immediately retaliated, forcing attackers to retreat and flee.

Initial reports suggest that two militants were injured in the exchange of fire. Security personnel intensified surveillance in the area.

DPO Mushtaq Ahmad praised the “bravery and prompt response” of the Chatkil post’s personnel and commended them for successfully repelling the attack.

He declared Swat police a courageous force, which, he said, is fighting terrorism from the frontline and that its personnel are determined to protect public life and property without caring for their own lives.

“Such cowardly attacks cannot demoralise Swat police. Our personnel know how to respond effectively to terrorist attacks,” he said.
