KARACHI: The ninth death anniversary of Pakistan’s ‘Mother Teresa’, Dr Ruth Pfau, who dedicated her life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan, was observed here on Monday.
Born on Sept 9, 1929 in Leipzig, Germany, Dr Pfau came to Pakistan in 1961, where she became a beacon of hope for countless individuals affected by this disease.
Renowned for her humanitarian service, her commitment to eradicating leprosy earned her the title of Pakistan’s Mother Teresa. Her selfless efforts led to the establishment of numerous clinics across the country, significantly reducing the incidence of leprosy.
Dr Pfau passed away in Karachi on this day in 2017, leaving behind a legacy that exemplifies compassion and service. Her life’s work testifies to the profound impact one individual can have in the fight against disease and poverty.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah paid tribute to Dr Pfau and said she dedicated most of her life to eradicating leprosy in Pakistan.
“Dr Ruth Pfau was more than a doctor; she was a ray of hope for suffering humanity,” he said, adding that Pakistanis will never forget her services and sacrifices.
