HARIPUR: Workers of different political parties and civil society organisations blocked the GT Road here on Sunday to protest the delay in the recovery of a minor girl, who went missing recently.

The protesters expressed lack of confidence in the investigation and demanded transfer of the Haripur DPO.

PML-N MNA Babar Nawaz Khan, MPA Shazia Jadoon, former tehsil nazim Samiullah Khan, PTI’s Raja Shahab Sikandar, JI’s Hassan Abdullah, PPP’s Jehanzeb Khan, Irum Fatima, Ishtiaq Ahmad Awan and Imran Alizai were among those who spoke to the protesters.

Speakers came down hard on the Haripur police for failing to recover the girl.

Criticising the investigation into the girl’s abduction case, the speakers questioned the claim by the police to have arrested three suspects involved in the abduction of the girl. The protesters who blocked the GT Road at 5pm continued their sit-in till filing of this report.

They demanded that the DPO come to the protest venue and give them assurance about the early recovery of the minor girl, who went missing from outside her home on August 10.

The police have arrested three teenage boys, and one of them confessed before the court of duty magistrate on Saturday that he and one of his three other accomplices raped the girl after abducting her.

The accused, however, did not disclose where the victim was or whether she was alive or not.
