GUJRAT: Police have found the bodies of a woman, her minor daughter and teenage sister from a pond after they went missing on Tuesday in Dinga town of Gujrat district.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shaukat Ali of Mohallah Mai Da Dera had lodged a complaint with the Dinga police that his daughter Arooj Fatima (21), her two-year-old daughter Rakoo Fatima and his daughter Haleema Sadia (15) had left the house to visit Arooj’s in-laws in Chargah Lokri locality at around 11:30am on Aug 25 to inform about the death of a close relative.

However, he said that they neither reached their destination nor returned home. In his complaint, he said that he suspected they might have been kidnapped by some unidentified suspects. On his complaint, police registered the case and started investigations.

On Wednesday, Dinga Rescue 1122 was informed about the dead bodies in a pond, after which police also reached the spot. The bodies were recovered from an open field which had turned into a pond due to stagnant rainwater.

Police said the bodies had been shifted to the Kharian THQ hospital for autopsy, whereas a team of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) also reached the spot and collected evidence.

Gujrat DPO Faisal Shahzad, SP investigation Hafiz Imtiaz Ahmed, Kharian Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shair and other officials also reached Dinga and inspected the scene.

The DPO expressed sorrow over the incident and assured the heirs that investigations into the case would be done from every aspect on merit.

A Gujrat Police spokesperson stated that initial investigations suggested that the deaths were caused by drowning.
